Week 7 Picks — Define Your SELF-ie Weekend!

College football, pump the brakes!

How can it be week 7 already? After this weekend, the season will be more than halfway over for most teams!

We need this madness to slow down…now. This past weekend was fun, with a few upset along the way! All 4 ranked teams that lost took Ls on their home field. I bet Gainesville, Ann Arbor, Norman, and Salt Lake City are all going to have nice, calm fans this week on the call-in shows.

Eli got me again this week, going 7 – 3 to increase his lead to pretty nice 56.5 – 22. I went 6 – 4 to move my overall record to 36 – 24. I need him to take a few weeks off to catch up…literally!

There are a lot of teams this weekend that need to define their seasons and pull out much needed wins! Who steps up and defines the moment before the moment defines them???

Top 5

South Carolina @ Tennessee

The USC defense is improving week to week and Will Muschamp seems to have the Vols’ number. UT is coming off a long bye week, which will hopefully lead to better play with Alabama looming. USC plays tough but loses late with special teams blunder in the kicking game.

Cov’s Call — UT 21 – 20

Clemson @ Syracuse

This game all depends on KB2’s health. If he is good, Tigers will roll through the ‘Cuse. If he is not, this game gets tricky when Dabo asks a true freshman to take the reigns in a very underrated environment on a Friday night. I think he plays but not much and Tigers use the running game to crush the Orange. The D will score a TD too.

Cov’s Call — CU 28 – 10

Auburn @ LSU

Auburn is actually a pretty good team and will challenge the Tide in the SEC West. So, for them, this game is a must and they catch a break with a 3:30 kick. LSU came back to life in The Swamp with a close win but the Gator offense is dismal at best. War Eagle will bring a run – pass option into Death Valley and use it to turn the home Tigers around in many circles.

Cov’s Call — Auburn 28 – 17

Vanderbilt @ Ole Miss

The Rebels are in big need of a win so their current interim coach can have a fighting chance of obtaining the reigns in Oxford. Derek Mason’s group needs it as well and his defense will come to play. The Rebels are fighting for pride while the ‘Dores are playing for bowl eligibility. The QB Kyle Shurmur will lead the black and gold to an impressive road win and party in The Grove like the Jay Cutler hay days

Cov’s Call — Vanderbilt 31 – 20

Georgia Tech @ Miami

The ‘Canes are coming off a huge win against their arch-nemesis FSU in Tallahassee. This is the classic let down game and going back to his Athens days, Mark Richt better prepare his boys extra hard for the triple option attack. Georgia Tech is quietly having a good season and can wreck havoc on the U’s season with a complete game. Is this the old U or more modern U? Losing their starting RB does not help at all and GT gets the big upset win on the road!

Next 5

Ohio State @ Nebraska

EZCN — OSU will kick Nebraska’s butt. That was a corny joke.

Cov’s Call — Buckeyes shuck the Big Red Huskers.

Baylor @ Oklahoma State

EZCN — OSU will ride into W-town instead of the bashful Bears.

Cov’s Call — Pokes make easy work of the Bears in Stillwater.

Arkansas @ Alabama

EZCN — Will Arkansas win? Won’t they win? They won’t against the Tide!

Cov’s Call — Tide flood Hogs and Bielema is forced into resignation.

Missouri @ Georgia

EZCN — Missouri will throw up a Hail Mary for the W, but UGA will bat it down.

Cov’s Call — Bulldogs sweep and inside trap Tigers into submission Between the Hedges.

Texas A&M @ Florida

EZCN — Gators will outsmart the Aggies.

Cov’s Call — Gators gigged by Aggies in The Swamp as McElwain’s offense sputters again!

That is it for week 7. Let us know what you think!

Until next time…
