Week 5 Picks — Front Porch Sittin’

The cars driving down the road.

The leaves whistling in the wind.

The dogs barking all over the yard.

The many stories told and lessons learned as many hours pass.

These all are memories of my time sitting on the front porch with different family members. The cold beverages may have changed over the years but I still enjoy a comfortable and relaxing moment on a porch.

I relate college football to front porch sitting in this way: watching college football can be full of lessons being learned, fun moments with family and friends, and yes, the fans barking all over the house (and message boards) as arm chair QBs. Sometimes, enjoyment is missed with the outcomes but we as fans always come back for more.

College football is awesome and so is front porch sitting! Go ahead…grab that favorite beverage and enjoy your front porch like no other!

Eli got me again in Week 4 by going 7-3 to my 6-4. His adjusted scoring takes him to 40-13 on the young season while I moved to 22-18. Time is there to catch up but it is not looking good at the moment. #sonknowsbest

Top 5

Georgia @ Tennessee

Huge game in Knoxville for one Butch Jones. Smokey Greys are coming out too. Raucous crowd is expected. All the signs point to a UT upset win but the UGA defense is stifling and the running back committee does the Vols in late in the game. UT fans drink their sorrows away at Calhouns afterwards!

Cov’s Call — UGA 27 – 20

Mississippi State @ Auburn

This one should be high scoring with both QBs tearing up the field. Big game for Gus Malzahn on the plains as he tries to cool the hot seat. Lose this and the chatter begins again. Too much Cameron Pettway for the Tigers in this one as the Bulldogs turn 1 loss into 2.

Cov’s Call — Tigers 31 – 27

South Carolina @ Texas A&M

What if the Aggies never joined the SEC? The Gamecocks might have had much better seasons since TXAM entered the conference as the Aggies have won each contest. There is no hope in sight in 2017 either as the College Station crowd will be loud Saturday nigh and the Aggies have too many players on the offensive side of the ball.

Cov’s Call — TXAM 27 – 17

Clemson @ Virginia Tech

Most attractive game of the weekend once again involves the Tigers and this should be another slobber-knocker! Dabo will have the boys ready to play as they try to drown out the ringing keys of Lane Stadium. QB Kelly Bryant will feast on the Hokie D with his legs and the running game salts the game away late.

Cov’s Call — CU 30 – 17

Southern Cal @ Washington State

A big game in Pullman on a Friday night has all the makings of crazy shenanigans. I simply ask ESPN to mic up WSU coach Mike Leach and their ratings would soar. The Trojans do have an offense, but their defense will shine in this game as they shut down the Cougar air raid offense.

Cov’s Call — USC 35 – 21

Next 5

Miami @ Duke

EZCN — Devils will ship out for Hurricane Miami.

Cov’s Call — Blue Devils pick up big win against the swirling ‘Canes.

FSU @ Wake Forest

EZCN — Demon Deacons will RIDE through the Seminoles.

Cov’s Call — Noles spear the Deacons in last minute!

Ole Miss @ Alabama

EZCN — The Roll Tide will Roll through the Rebels in a SEC Rematch.

Cov’s Call — The Tide name their number as Rebels limp back to Oxford.

Cal @ Oregon

EZCN — Cal will call the Ducks to take an “L”.

Cov’s Call — The Ducks outshine the Bears in Autzen!

Colorado @ UCLA

EZCN — Buffalos will ram through the bright Bruins.

Cov’s Call — UCLA runs with Ralphie and passes them in the end.

That’s it for this week. Eli came up with the Next 5 all on his own…alliteration and all.

Until next time!
