Week 6 CFB…Road Work Ahead…watch out!

Week 5 saw 3 Top 10 battles where 2 of the contests did not disappoint (Washington and Stanford outstanding). ACC–Miami might be for real, Florida State definitely is not, and 2 teams might make the playoff after the crazy game in Pickens County. SEC–Tennessee might be this years Auburn from 2013, how else can UGA lose, and will the Gamecocks ever score 3 touchdowns in a game? PAC 12–Oregon is playing with webbed feet, the Husky D is for real, and Colorado has been their Wheaties! Big 12–Texas’ defense is worse than a hot stinky pile of garbage, can we have Bob Stoops and Gary Patterson more often, and please go ahead and invite Houston…come on, do it! Big 10–November inside The Horseshoe is going to be epic, the Badgers are pretty dang good, and can Nebraska sustain the success like this is the early 1990s.

And, Notre Dame just allowed another touchdown on defense!

Eli picked quite a few upsets last week and it came back to haunt him, going 2-8. His overall record is now 28-22 (56%). I was able to keep my 70% pace up and tallied a 7-3 record, moving me to 33-17 (66%) through 5 weeks.

This is Headline Week (version 2) for me as quite a few ranked teams go on the road this week to overcome another battle in the journey to the Top 4.

Clemson @ Boston College

Tiger offense had spurts against Louisville that reminded us moments in 2015. QB DeShaun Watson will have another huge game as RB Wayne Gallman gets over 100 yards en route to another Tiger victory.

Cov’s Call–

Tigers take W-tea from Chesnut Hill

Eli’s Elite–

Alabama @ Arkansas

Tide are rolling but Hogs present physical battle with Aggies looming next week! This one could be closer than experts think but the tough elephants get it done in the end!

Cov’s Call–

Hurts and Co. roll the Hogs and their bristle back hair into submission

Eli’s Elite–

Florida State @ Miami

If ever a year for the ‘Canes to do this 2016 is the year! If it doesn’t happen this year it may be another 10-12 before it does again. I kid! The weather could play a huge role in this game which I think swings advantage to home team. Don’t get me wrong FSU is still a good team but I believe Mark Richt gets it done.

Cov’s Call–

‘Canes push ‘Noles out to sea and their season’s dreams are sunk in the Atlantic!

Eli’s Elite–

Texas @ Oklahoma

Charlie Strong can’t get the defense right in a week can he? QB Baker Mayfield has a field day and enacts some 2015 revenge as the Sooners topple the Longhorns!

Cov’s Call–

Sooners deep-fry the ‘Horns day all day, enjoy Texas State Fair after

Eli’s Elite–

Tennessee @ Texas A&M

Can the Vols get lucky again? The 12th man will be up to the challenge to make sure that doesn’t happen as the Aggies come ready to play. I think UT digs their hole too big in the first half and can’t miraculously recover in the second half. Their joy ride of the first half of the season ends in College Station.

Cov’s Call–

Aggies volunteer UT to take their first L

Eli’s Elite–

Georgia @ South Carolina

The Bulldogs have seen both ends of the spectrum when it comes to losses. USC still can’t find enough offense to get a big win and with Nick Chubb returning I see another hard fought loss for the Gamecocks that seems to be norm in Columbia this year.

Cov’s Call–

Dawgs D stifle USC within the Coop

Eli’s Elite–

Houston @ Navy

The Cougars take a huge road trip to Annapolis that could be harder than it looks. They will have to score every time they get the ball which might be 5 or 6 times in the contest. Navy is going to battle but they will not be able to keep up with the Cougars.

Cov’s Call–

Cougars don’t sink in Annapolis

Eli’s Elite–

Colorado @ USC West

The Buffs are a surprise team of 2016 and their offense is for real. Trojans are trying to stop the bleeding. A loss here and Clay Helton could be on a much hotter seat. Buffs find a way!

Cov’s Call–

Ralphie chases the Hollywood lights!

Eli’s Elite–

LSU @ Florida

Weather implications. Two good defenses. Two QBs who don’t light it up. Over/under set at 28. I see this as defensive struggle if the weather from the nearby hurricane plays a part. I give advantage to the home team even though the Tigers have revamped their offense and expect LF7 back in Gainesville.

Cov’s Call–

Gators wrestle Tigers into Swamp and catch them up in a trap.

Eli’s Elite–

Virginia Tech @ UNC

Two teams ranked in the Top 25 that most didn’t think would be there. Chapel Hill will be rocking and 2 good QBs take the field trying to get a leg up in the division battle for a trip to Orlando in early December. Which defense can stop the other? I see a lot of powder blue and white in control of this one.

Cov’s Call–

Tar Heels stomp on the Hokies neck and the gobble subsides in the ACC

Eli’s Elite–

That’s it for this week! Thanks for reading! Until next time…
